Associated Press: Enzi, Barrasso co-sponsor bill to rein in deficit
U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso have signed on to legislation to reduce spending and streamline the federal government.
The Wyoming Republicans are co-sponsors of a bill introduced by Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, of Wisconsin, that will save an estimated $655 billion over 10 years.
It would do so by implementing discretionary spending recommendations of the recent Simpson-Bowles report on dealing with the nation's huge federal deficit.
Enzi says in a statement that proposals are needed where there is agreement on how to end Washington's overspending and perhaps bring momentum to the task of cutting the federal budget.
Barrasso says the proposals embraced by the bill have broad support and Congress should act on them now.
