Door County Advocate: Johnson is doing the job
By William Berglund
Last year a man came on the Republican scene quietly at first, but with convictions and knowledge about what was happening to our country. He did not like it and decided to not sit and complain but to try to do something about it.
In a little over a month, he convinced fellow Republicans from all over the state to endorse him at the convention. The few months between May and November became a whirlwind, but look at the result. Defeating a longtime entrenched Senator.
In his first days in office, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson earned appointments to the powerful appropriations and budget committees where he is on the front lines fighting for fiscal responsibility. These were impressive appointments for a freshman senator and are indicative of the passion Johnson took with him to Washington to turn our financial mess around.
He is now demonstrating that passion on national news programs almost daily. We have to heed his alarm. Our government simply cannot continue spending money we do not have. We sent Johnson to Washington to fix it, and he's doing all he can with no help from the Democrats or leadership from the president. It's time for them to join him.
This freshman senator from Wisconsin did not sit by and behave by the Senate standards, he jumped into the fray and has become a person in a leadership role. The Senate and the country know who this man from Wisconsin is and are listening to his message, just as we did last year.
I could not be more proud of what we did and what he is doing. The state of Wisconsin and our country may finally get real hope and change.
