Daily Caller: Ron Johnson: ‘There is way too much political demagoguery out there that sounds good’
Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson said demagoguery in today’s politics is damaging the future for America’s young people.
“I think the youth in general do have big hearts, and they want to help people,” Johnson told The Daily Caller. “And they don’t have the experience in the world in terms of what actually works, in terms of an economic model. And there is way too much political demagoguery out there that sounds good.”
“It’s like President Obama says he’s all about making the rich pay their fair share,” he added. “Does that imply that I don’t want the rich to pay their fair share? I mean I do, and the fact of the matter is the wealthiest 1 percent paid, in 2007, over 40 percent of the total income tax burden. And the bottom 95 percent paid less than that.”
Johnson was speaking at the 2012 National Conservative Student Conference held at George Washington University. More than 300 high school and college students attended the event, organized by the Young America’s Foundation.
