Johnson: I am just talking about the truth of what promises were made

Washington, D.C. – Senator Ron Johnson questioned witnesses Wednesday at a Small Business Committee hearing held to examine the Obamacare rollout and its direct effect on small businesses.

JOHNSON – I am just talking about the truth of what promises were made here – and we were promised that the health care law would actually decrease costs but all the added costs, all the added coverages, all the added mandates have increased costs, correct?

HICKEY – Sir, if I could point out to you that 25% of the premium that you pay today goes to cover the uninsured and to cover the services they get from wherever they get it from. So, that, I think, is where the opportunity, once those people get covered – the insurance companies will have a major opportunity to lower the costs.

Johnson commented afterward:

"We now know Obamacare is a death sentence to millions of health plans Americans like and can afford.  Senator Landrieu's ‘fix’ only addresses individual insurance coverage and ignores the plight of millions of Americans destined to lose their employer-sponsored coverage or to see those costs skyrocket. Likewise, the president's recently announced political ‘fix’ attempts to redirect the blame and is merely a temporary stay of execution for a limited few.  What Americans really need and deserve is full pardon from Obamacare. My bill, the ‘If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep Your Health Plan Act,’ is not temporary and is the first step in achieving that full pardon."
