WTMJ: Sen. Johnson explains why he voted no on Violence Against Women Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson's face is on a photo making the rounds on social media titled "The 22 Republican men who voted against the violence against women act."

But Senator Johnson says there's more to the story.

"Obviously I'm against violence against women," Johnson said. Johnson says he has concerns about new costs in the law.

In addition he has constitutional concerns about a provision that allows tribal courts to prosecute non-Native Americans accused of assaulting Native American women on reservations. "Unfortunately Harry Reid and the Democrats have politicized it," Johnson said.

He points out that he did vote for a Republican alternative.
