Johnson Comments on IRS and HHS

Washington, D.C. - Senator Ron Johnson made the following statement regarding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and their capacity to administer Obamacare:

“The IRS scandal targeting people and organizations who disagree with the politics and policies of the current administration violates the First Amendment. It is a frightening abuse of federal government power over the very people government is supposed to serve.

“Equally frightening and onerous is Secretary Sebelius’  abuse of her regulatory power to coerce contributions to pro-Obamacare organizations from the very businesses and industries she regulates. This is corruption, and Congress should immediately initiate hearings into Secretary Sebelius’ abuse of her office and federal power.

“As the primary administrators of Obamacare, the IRS and HHS have lost their credibility with the American people to effectively administer this massive and unaffordable new program.  Both Senate Majority Leader Reid and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus have called the implementation of Obamacare 'a train wreck.'

“I couldn’t agree more.  Congress should not allow Obamacare to proceed under a dark cloud of lawlessness, intimidation and corruption. This is another example of why this law needs to be repealed by Congress immediately. The American people deserve far more than they are getting from this administration and this Congress.”
