Johnson Comments on H.R. 3979, Bill to Authorize the Nation's Defense

Washington – Sen. Johnson made these remarks on the passage of H.R. 3979, the bill to authorize the nation’s defense, and on the future of the littoral combat ship program in Wisconsin:

“The finest among us are currently fighting to defend America against enemies allied with those who attacked us on 9-11. Those enemies urge the destruction of America and carry out the slaughter of Americans and other innocent people. Defending America and Americans is the first priority of the federal government. It is imperative that Congress provide our forces with the resources needed to carry out their duties. I voted to do just that.”

Senator Johnson went on to comment on the littoral combat ship program: “I am also happy about the Department of Defense’s plan to proceed with the production of all 52 ships.  As the Navy works through options to increase the survivability and lethality of these ships, I will continue to work with it to advance the best and most cost effective plan while maintaining the most responsible use of our industrial base investment.”
