Johnson Comments on Debt Ceiling Vote
Washington, D.C. – Senator Johnson made the following comments on the debt ceiling vote held today in the Senate.
“The Senate's vote to suspend the limit on federal borrowing for over a year demonstrates how completely dysfunctional Washington is. The government owes more than $17.2 trillion – $54,000 per American – and yet President Obama and Senate Democrats demanded that we increase the debt burden on our children and grandchildren without enacting any additional fiscal discipline.
“America's debt is the product of the unsustainable growth in the size and scope of government. We need to begin prioritizing spending so that government can afford to perform its constitutional duties and fulfill its promises without bankrupting our nation. The President and Senate Democrats refuse to even consider discussing responsible action. I voted no."
