Johnson Releases Statement on American TV & Appliance Closure

Oshkosh, WI – Senator Ron Johnson made the following statement regarding the news that American TV & Appliance is going out of business:

“I’m saddened to hear that American TV & Appliance will go out of business after 60 years and, especially, that 989 employees will lose their jobs.

“The company said when announcing the sad news that for the past five years ‘the economy has been unforgiving.’ They are unfortunately correct. It has been exactly five years since President Obama signed his $831 billion big-government stimulus into law, and a typical family’s income is lower now in real-dollar terms than it was then. The share of Americans with a job has been stuck for years at levels we last saw in 1984. This is the terrible result of an administration whose most notable words to potential employers were, ‘You didn’t build that.

“President Obama has not made economic expansion and the creation of new private sector jobs a priority.  In fact, his policies of increased taxes, increased regulatory burden, massive debt and Obamacare are disincentives to economic growth and new jobs.  It is my hope that President Obama will set his ideological priorities aside and work to fix our ailing economy.”
