Johnson Comments on Unemployment Insurance Vote

Sen. Johnson made these remarks after voting against authorizing temporary extended unemployment benefits yet again:

“What the federal government needs to do is to start prioritizing spending. If Harry Reid and the supporters of this bill were truly serious, they would have found lower priority spending to cut as a way to protect our children and grandchildren from the further bankrupting of America.

“Instead, Harry Reid ‘paid for’ five months of spending with cuts scheduled over the next 10 years. This mismatch alone shows that Reid is not serious. The ‘pay-for’ is also bad policy – making Americans’ pensions less sound. That’s why I voted no.”
