Johnson Comments on WRRDA Vote
Washington, D.C. – The Senate voted Thursday on the Water Resources Reform and Development Act. Senator Ron Johnson made these comments regarding his vote:
“The Water Resources Reform and Development Act had a number of provisions I supported and worked to include.
“Among them are improvements in harbor maintenance for Great Lakes ports and language to help the City of Waukesha cope with its EPA-caused water supply issues.
“But these important provisions did not outweigh the bill’s serious flaws. In addition to increasing government spending far in excess of the deal that President Obama and Congress agreed to in December, the bill did not adequately reform a broken system that fails to effectively prioritize federal spending and Army Corps of Engineers projects.
“Because the bill lacked adequate reform and an effective prioritization process, I could not support it.”
