Liberal Groups Fear Senator Johnson's Lawsuit
Washington, D.C. – Senator Johnson’s office released the below statement in response to an invented controversy related to the Senator’s lawsuit.
“Senator Johnson has been completely transparent in how he plans to pay for his lawsuit against the Obama administration. Even in his announcement of the lawsuit, Senator Johnson plainly stated that his campaign, and not taxpayers, would pay for all costs incurred. Campaign donations and expenditures are reported to the Federal Election Commission and are available to the public. As Senator Johnson pays his legal bills, those will be reported as well. The Johnson campaign has not violated the intent or letter of FEC regulations on this matter and is confident the FEC will rule accordingly.
“Liberal political groups are coming out of the woodwork to criticize Senator Johnson’s lawsuit against this administration. They obviously recognize the potential for this suit to be a landmark decision finally applying the needed check on a president who is governing unilaterally. As George Washington Law professor Jonathan Turley said, “We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis with sweeping implications for our system of government.”
“Senator Johnson refuses to be deterred by the pressure brought by these liberal groups because he understands how important this constitutional matter is. He understands that it is time for members of Congress to affirm their solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution, and he is hopeful that courts agree that it is time for them to engage in this incredibly important separation of powers issue.”
