Senator Johnson Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Oshkosh, Wis. – Sen. Ron Johnson today made the following remarks in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day:

“The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. fearlessly confronted discrimination to lead America into a new era. He did this by reminding Americans of very old ideas. In 1954, in one of his first recorded public speeches, he reminded his audience that ‘some things are right and some things are wrong. Eternally so, absolutely so. It’s wrong to hate. It always has been wrong and it always will be wrong! … Some things in this universe are absolute. The God of the universe has made it so.’ ”

“King believed America could be better if we all listened more attentively to our consciences. He was right. His example is an enduring inspiration to us all.”
