WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, made these remarks following President Obama’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act on Thursday:

"It is more than unfortunate that the commander in chief would hold America's national security hostage to his demand for more spending on lower-priority big-government programs. The president is putting our national security and the finest among us, the men and women of our armed services, at risk by vetoing the bipartisan 2016 National Defense Authorization Act.  I hope that Congress is able to override this irresponsible veto, as support for our troops and providing for national defense should command bipartisan unity."
