Ron's State of the Union Week

State of the Union Reflections

Meet Ron's State of the Union Guest

"I am honored to have Pastor Jerome Smith as my guest at the State of the Union," Ron said. "He’s a pastor from Milwaukee, at the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ. He’s changing lives, delivering hope, making a difference. Our society needs more people willing to step up the way he has."

Senator Johnson Comments on President's State of the Union Address

Sen. Johnson being interviewed

“I have always preferred to start with areas of agreement. So when the president spoke of regulatory reform and I heard the strong bipartisan support for it, it gave me some hope. With President Obama throwing his support toward some measure of regulatory reform and Congress already working on a bipartisan set of reforms, we may accomplish what will be a pillar of the sort of reform we need to get our economy at last to grow in a robust fashion.

“Far less encouraging was the president’s assessment of national security. I realize our enemies won’t frontally assault us. But they will test us over the next 12 months – as a result of the president’s strategy of peace through withdrawal. His nuclear agreement with Iran has modified that country’s behavior – for the worse, as they lob missiles near the USS Truman and detain American sailors. I’m highly concerned by his denial of reality and by his failure to lay out a strategy to accomplish the goal he laid out more than a year ago, to defeat ISIS. We do not need to be the world’s policeman, but the world hungers for American leadership. President Obama gave no sign he will begin to show it.”

Sen. Johnson met Army Maj. Lisa Jaster this week. She is a Wisconsin native and the third woman to complete Ranger School. The 37-year-old was one of 19 women to begin Ranger School last April as part of a Pentagon mandate to open combat to women. It took her 180 days to finish.

Wisconsin United Way CEOs

MMAC Health Care Professionals

Sen. Johnson held a roundtable with members of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce on Friday to discuss health care and insurance policies. It was a lively discussion!
