Johnson Comments on Passage of 21st Century Cures Act, Promises to Continue Fight for Trickett Wendler Right to Try Act
WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said this Wednesday after voting in favor of the 21st Century Cures Act, which passed the Senate 94-5 and was sent to the president:
“I am hopeful the reforms and resources authorized in this legislation will accelerate the development of treatments and modernize the federal approval process. These are critical goals in today’s era of medical innovation. I am pleased provisions addressing mental health and the nation’s opioid epidemic were included, but I am disappointed the Trickett Wendler Right to Try Act was not included or allowed a vote despite having 43 bipartisan co-sponsors in the U.S. Senate. I remain dedicated to working with Leader McConnell and Chairman Alexander on getting it passed on behalf of those with terminal illnesses who simply want the right to try to save their own lives.”
