Joseph Project Kicks Off New Class, Gifted New Vans
Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp. to give two new vans to Joseph Project participants
WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) will be at Greater Praise Church of God in Christ in Milwaukee on Monday morning to congratulate another Joseph Project class and celebrate the purchase of two vans by the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp. for Joseph Project participants.
The Joseph Project is an effort inspired by Robert L. Woodson Sr.’s book, “The Triumphs of Joseph,” about community-based initiatives. In the effort, churches host week-long class sessions to teach job-seekers the “soft skills” that help them in job interviews and in their beginning steps on the career ladder. Johnson has played a pivotal role alongside the church’s pastor, Jerome Smith, in facilitating the effort. Monday’s class is the eighth since the program started in late September 2015.
“I’m pleased to be working with Pastor Jerome Smith in helping job-seekers learn skills they need to grab the first rung on the ladder of success,” Sen. Johnson said. “He and the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ are changing lives and delivering hope through the Joseph Project. There are so many opportunities existing in Wisconsin industry — we just have to figure out how to make the connection for people who are genuinely seeking opportunity. We are looking for people throughout Wisconsin to become involved in this effort the way Pastor Smith and the participating employers have.”
Media availability: There will be a media availability with Sen. Johnson, Pastor Smith and Dane Checolinski of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp. at 10:45 a.m. CT in the church parking lot. Media is welcome to set up at 10:30 a.m. CT to catch the wrapped vans pulling up to the church.
