Johnson, Duffy Urge President Obama to Support Disaster Assistance for Northern Wisconsin Flooding
Governor declared a state of emergency for eight counties due to the severe storms
WASHINGTON – Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Congressman Sean Duffy (WI-07) sent a letter Wednesday to President Obama urging his support for disaster assistance for the people of the State of Wisconsin.
The text of Johnson and Duffy’s letter to the President is here:
“We write to ask for your prompt support for the people of the State of Wisconsin following torrential rain, damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and flooding earlier this week. At this time, Governor Walker has declared a state of emergency for Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Sawyer, and Washburn counties.
“Beginning on July 11, 2016, severe storms and strong winds caused flash flooding, downed trees and powerlines, and damage to homes, businesses, roads, and bridges. The flooding also claimed the lives of at least two individuals and forced the rescue of 33 others.
“We understand that the Governor may seek additional Federal resources to ensure an effective response beyond what capabilities the State and local governments can provide. If so, we urge you to promptly review the request for assistance for the State of Wisconsin.”
