Johnson Leads Bipartisan Resolution Highlighting Trauma-Informed Care
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) today announced a bipartisan Senate resolution recognizing the importance and effectiveness of trauma-informed care. The bipartisan resolution highlights the importance of an issue that Wisconsin’s first lady, Tonette Walker, has prominently advocated.
“Teachers, social workers and health care professionals often lack the training necessary to effectively communicate with those who have experienced trauma and to provide support to them,” Sen. Johnson said. “I hope that greater awareness of this issue will encourage more people to develop these skills and improve outcomes.”
The resolution encourages the use and practice of trauma-informed care, and supports the designation of May 2018 as “National Trauma Awareness Month,” along with May 22, 2018 as “National Trauma-Informed Awareness Day.”
Text of the resolution can be found here.
