WASHINGTON – During an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, spoke about the recent attempt at health care reform and previewed his committee’s upcoming hearing on threats to our homeland.

On health care reform

“I certainly have faith that at some point in time, we can pass Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson. I think we’ve proven the concept; we just simply ran out of time. That was unfortunate. The process was rushed. I think people were concerned about that and they had legitimate concerns. We were up against this artificial clock in terms of budget reconciliation, but we can do it again.”

On “threats” hearing

“We have enormous threats facing this nation, they’re growing, they’re evolving, they’re metastasizing. We’ll have the Director of the FBI, the Director of the National Counter Terrorism Center and also Elaine Duke, the acting Secretary of Homeland Security, and I'm sure we’ll be asking her a lot of questions exactly on how they are responding to Puerto Rico. … We all are taking [Puerto Rico] very seriously.
