WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said the following in response to the Trump administration’s proposal to roll-back an Obama administration rule that reduced affordable health care options for consumers:

“Obamacare made healthcare unaffordable for many hardworking Americans. To add insult to injury, President Obama further restricted access to more affordable options as he left office.  I’m pleased to see the Trump administration follow through on its commitment to bringing more affordable choices to Obamacare’s forgotten men and women.”

Short-term, limited duration plans offer consumers a variety of health benefits and are another option for health coverage. The Obama administration previously decreased the maximum policy length of short-term plans from 364 days to just 90 days.

On June 8, 2017, Senator Johnson led 14 senators in sending a letter encouraging the Trump administration to reverse the Obama-era regulation. Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) cosigned the letter.
