Johnson Discusses Trip to China, Border Security, and FBI on Fox News
WASHINGTON – In appearances on Fox News Thursday night and Friday morning, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and member of the Foreign Relations committee, discussed his recent trip to China and the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the president’s decision to work with border state governors to deploy the National Guard to the southern border, and his frustration with the FBI redacting of documents provided to Congress.
Excerpts from Senator Johnson’s appearances are below, and video can be found here:

On China visit
“What is such a shame here and what is unfortunate is this president has done a great job at ending the increase in the regulatory burden, which has brought a great deal of certainty to the economy. We also made American businesses competitive. We gave American taxpayers, virtually every one of them, a tax cut and that brought certainty and optimism to the economy. All the talk of trade wars, tariffs, and retaliation is bringing a high level of uncertainty.”
“The maximum pressure campaign needs to be maintained until North Korea completely dismantles its nuclear program in a verifiable way. That is what we need China to help us make sure we achieve.”
On border security
“The president is absolutely right, barriers work.”
“We definitely need to fix our broken legal immigration system, have so many laws and legal loopholes that incentivize illegal immigration.”
“I've always believed the American people support securing our borders for a host of reasons: national security, public health and safety, or drug trafficking as well as fix our legal immigration system, we have to control our borders.”
On FBI redactions
“I sent a letter to Attorney General Sessions, to Rod Rosenstein and Inspector General Horowitz about the redacted text messages that shouldn't have been redacted. I'm starting to do an investigation in terms of who is doing these redactions? Who in the FBI is making these decisions? I think it's a real problem there as well…it is a problem for a number of committees both the house and senate and we'll get to the bottom of this.”
