OSHKOSH — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), said Thursday that it is not improper for U.S. investigators to seek information or cooperation from international partners.

“Sometimes you may need some information. You may need some access. You may need them to cooperate with, for example, U.S. FBI agents going there to investigate a potential crime,” Johnson said to reporters after an event in Middleton.

The senator made it clear that he was not discussing any specific allegation, and he cautioned that he does not trust the government of China to investigate American affairs.

But he said that it is not improper for the president, who is the chief executive of the United States, including for foreign relations, to ask other governments to provide information for U.S. investigations when it serves the United States’ interests.
