Memorial Day Weekend 2020

Memorial Day Remembrances

Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, Americans are still coming together while we are apart to remember and honor our heroes. While Memorial Day parades and ceremonies across the country have been cancelled due to the current COVID pandemic, that in no way diminishes our respect and gratitude for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This weekend, we reflect on the great cost of freedom and resolve to not take for granted what our service men and women through the ages have fought and died for. We are currently fighting a different enemy, and just like those battles of the past, we will persevere and overcome this one as well. God Bless you and your families this Memorial Day.

There will be a statewide virtual Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25.

Subponea Vote on Burisma Oversight

Ron Johnson on Fox News

My committee voted this week to issue a subponea for Blue Star Strategies, the public relations firm hired by shady Ukrainian oil company Burisma to rehabilitate their image in the United States. This subpoena didn't have to be a big deal, but Democrats made it a political issue. The American people have a right to know whether there was inappropriate pressure applied on the State Department by Blue Star Strategies. We've been kept in the dark for too long.

In an interview on "Outnumbered Overtime With Harris Faulkner", I discussed the committee's Blue Star subpoena vote and continuing oversight efforts. Watch it here.

I also spoke with "America's Newsroom". Watch that interview here.

Susan Rice Email Declassified

Martha MacCallum's Show

As part of my committee's continuing government oversight efforts, I discussed a recently declassified email sent by President Obama's national security advisor Susan Rice with Martha MacCallum on Fox News. The email describes a meeting held a couple weeks earlier where senior Obama administration officials discussed their concerns about President-elect Trump's pick to be national security advisor, Michael Flynn. My first thought when I read that declassified email was why in the world was that ever classified? My next thought was we did not witness what America has become so famous for: a peaceful, cooperative, well-wishing transition of power. Instead, we saw corruption of that transition. A transition that was really designed to sabotage and upend the new administration.

Federal Coronavirus Spending

WPR Radio Clip

In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, I was asked about supporting more spending for coronavirus response. I believe before we talk about another round of spending, we need to analyze what we've already done and why $2 trillion of the $3 trillion authorized already has yet to be spent.

Listen to my answer here.
