Johnson Discusses Election Integrity, Electoral Commission on Fox News
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) discussed his support for creating an electoral commission to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns from disputed states during an interview on Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime” Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s Electoral College count.
Excerpts from the interview are below and video of the interview can be found here.
“I think the main problem from my standpoint is you have so many people in the mainstream media, certainly Democrats, who just want to sweep this under the rug, that just want to dismiss these very serious and legitimate concerns of what happened during the 2020 election.”
“The fact of the matter is, you have tens of millions of Americans who simply don’t believe this is a legitimate outcome. We've just gone through four years with the Democrats and extreme left that simply did not acknowledge President Trump as the legitimate president. Now here we are, because of Covid, because of a more than doubling of the number of absentee ballots at the same time Democrats pushed the envelope, relaxing standards. There were some real problems here. The problem is not going away. The only solution I can come up with is investigate, explain, be transparent. But sweeping this under the rug, as many people want us to do, simply won't work.”
“One of the issues I think we want to make is state legislatures are empowered by the Constitution to set the time, manner and place of elections. Yet many state legislatures abdicated to unelected judges, unelected election officials. We've seen it time and time again. Maybe this is the warning to state legislatures: if you don't want your citizens, their votes, disenfranchised, not counted, step up to the plate. Assume your responsibility, take control over your own elections. Don't let judges, don’t let election officials do it for you.”
