Johnson Amendments to Counter Russian Aggression Included in Ukraine Security Partnership Act of 2021

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), successfully added language to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s bipartisan Ukraine Security Partnership Act of 2021 that would further support Ukraine and help counter Russian’s malign activities.

The language offered by the senator recognizes as U.S. policy the full scope of U.S. sanctions law in relation to Russian aggression, states as U.S. policy the importance of more frequent multinational freedom of navigation operations in the Black Sea, and requires a report on how the U.S. will support Ukraine in deterring Russian disruption of commerce and traffic to Ukrainian ports.

Johnson, a member of the bipartisan Ukraine Caucus, recently cosigned a letter along with his colleagues to express concern regarding the unprovoked buildup of Russian military forces along the eastern border of Ukraine and the Crimean Peninsula and to call on the administration to push back against Putin’s malign aggression and support the people of Ukraine.
