Johnson: President Adamantly Denied Claim on Aid
OSHKOSH — A spokesman for Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Friday noted that, in light of the text messages released Thursday by the Democrat majority of several House committees, Senator Johnson thought it necessary to go on record with an account of the relevant portions of his Aug. 31 telephone call with President Trump.
He did so with Siobhan Hughes of the Wall Street Journal, who reports that the president adamantly denied that there was any kind of arrangement calling for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to do something specific before President Trump would release the military aid.
Senator Johnson does not recall in any meeting or discussion with the president, or any member of the administration, that the term “quid pro quo” was ever used. Nor does he recall any discussion of any specific case of corruption in the 2016 election, such as Crowdstrike, the hack of the DNC servers, Hillary Clinton campaign involvement, or Hunter and Joe Biden, during general discussions of corruption, which is endemic throughout Ukraine.
