U.S. SENATE PAGE PROGRAM

Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Senate Page Program. Senator Ron Johnson has the privilege of sponsoring qualified students from Wisconsin. The Senate Page Program provides students the opportunity to get involved in government service and to experience the United States Senate legislative process firsthand. Exceptional high school juniors with a passion for government and the legislative process are encouraged to apply.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Pages must be a junior in high school (summer pages may be rising juniors or rising seniors)
  • Pages must be 16 or 17 years old
  • Pages must be a U.S. citizen or subject to agreements of the Department of State, and must have a Social Security number
  • Pages must verify a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/B
  • Pages must provide a general health assessment completed by a licensed physician and a certification of immunization
  • Pages are required to be covered by health insurance; if not covered, they will be required to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program

PROGRAM INFORMATION

There are four sessions each year:

  • Fall session from early September to mid-January
  • Spring session from mid-January to mid-June
  • Two summer sessions which each run 3-4 weeks depending on the legislative calendar

Pages’ shared responsibilities consist primarily of delivering correspondence and legislative material within the Capitol and Senate office buildings, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and working on the Senate floor to provide assistance during roll call votes, support senators and staff during debates, and carry bills and amendments to the desk.

During the fall and spring sessions, classes are held at the Senate Page School. During the school year, pages are required to live in the Daniel Webster Senate Page Residence which is located on Capitol Hill. The school is rigorous so semester pages must be very strong academically.

Pages are paid on an annual salary basis.  For 2025, the pay is based on $37,238 per year.  The cost of residence living is $1,200 per month, which includes housing, two meals per day, and field trips; payments are withheld by automatic payroll deductions.

Pages are expected to demonstrate maturity, personal responsibility, and time management skills. They must also abide by a strict code of conduct and guidelines established by the Page Program.

APPLYING

Senate pages must be sponsored by a Senator. The program is highly competitive as there are only thirty page positions in the United States Senate. Not all Senators are able to appoint pages. Due to the limited number of positions and high competition, not all students who apply can be accommodated. For information on applying or questions, please email pages@ronjohnson.senate.gov.
